I didn’t think I would have time to post today, but I’ve come to enjoy posting so much that I busted my butt to get my work finished. Okay, almost finished. After seeing today’s Daily Post word, I reckoned a bunch of Bloggers would be posting advice about how to simplify or exhortations on the importance of simplifying. My life is far too complex even to consider doing so, but I remembered this old poem I wrote when I was younger and sillier. It’s not an intellectually taxing piece of poetry. In fact, it doesn’t get much simpler than this one. I hope you enjoy and tell me what you think of it either way.
An Irrational Fear
If I shrank down to the size of a pea,
crippling fear would paralyze me.
I could be crushed by a landslide of dust
or sucked dry by a vengeful flea.
If I happened to suffer such a fate—
a brand new way to lose lots of weight,
but don’t go try it, this new kind of diet—
I’d try like heck not to end up on a plate.
If I could avoid these horrible scenes
only to find out it’s not a bad dream,
I’d sit down, cry, and pray to God “Why?”
And try to get used to just being wee.
…and what if you’d end up on the plate? or in a soup? i love pea soup for example :)) haha

Nah, I’ve always wanted to take a “Fantastic Voyage”-style journey through the interior of the human body anyway!

This is fantastic! I’m smiling from ear to ear. I wonder how many of our fears are rational?

Hmm, good question. Probably any that are borne out by prior similar traumatic experience.

Congratulations I have nominated you for a Blogger Recognition Award. https://kjeastwick.com/2018/02/11/blogger-recognition-award/ I enjoy your writing and your tag line amuses me no end. I struggle to read and write so usually only do one or the other. This award takes a long time to respond to, so if you do not wish to respond, I am fine with that. Cheers KJ Eastwick

Whoa. Dark! Sometimes old poems have so much to say to us, but sometimes we have to wait a very long time to know what it was! I find that only then can I take the message of the poem and make a new poem, from a new perspective about what the first was really all about. Anyway, I like the poem very much.

Goodness me it took a while to scroll down to the bottom just to leave my comment here after reading your poem. Yes, yes, I know I am reading this late and commenting late. But better late than never. I remember a time when my comments were some of the only you would get my dear friend. It is so great that you kept going and continued writing. I truly love everything you post, this poem included.
