A Bit (More) About Me #6

Melanie B. Cee’s Hallowe’en edition of ‘Share Your World’ looks too fun to forego, so BOO, y’all!

Name something you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark forest or in an abandoned building.
Anything pointy & sharp.

Share the creepiest thing that’s ever happened while you were alone.
On more than one occasion, I’ve had a horrifying dream in which I’m fully awake when I observe myself enter the room and walk toward me while I lie in the bed or in a recliner mostly immobilized and unable to utter a sound while filled with the certainty that my Doppleganger is evil and intent on killing and replacing me.  If I try to speak, my lips won’t part.  If I try to scream, I emit only a whisper.  Every time I’ve had the dream, the closer my Doppleganger gets, the harder I struggle to scream and rise until I finally awaken with a shout, heart pounding, drenched in cold sweat, and momentarily absolutely certain I was fully awake the entire time and had a legitimate supernatural encounter.  One time, the Doppleganger was accompanied by my wife, and she clearly thought he was me, appeared not even to see the reclining me, but every other time he’s been alone.  The few times I’ve had this dream have been the only times in my adult life that I’ve been petrified with terror.  One time I was so horrified that I had the dry heaves for several minutes afterward.

What would you like your last words to be?
“Thank you for spending your life with me, Baby.  I love you.”

Do you believe in any ‘mythical’ monsters like Chupacabras or shadow people?
No, but that doesn’t keep me from loving to read, write, watch, and share stories about them!

How long do you think you would last in a horror movie?
Ever how long it would take me to get killed trying to save someone else or trying to kill the killer.

Are you afraid of clowns or find them creepy?
Only the ones that are trying to be creepy.  I have never understood how anyone could find a run-of-the-mill circus clown creepy or scary.

In the zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice?
A vorpal blade, of course, gleefully going ‘snicker-snack’!

Have you ever had your tarot cards read?
No, but I won’t rule out having it done for fun should the opportunity ever arise.

Anyone know the reason behind putting candles in jack-o-lanterns?
So we can see their carved faces in the dark?  Melanie provided a link to documented reasons on her original post, so check it out if you’re curious.

Do you think putting special emphasis on certain holidays – like Hallowe’en is ‘spooky’ for example — is a good idea or just more mindless entertainment for the masses?
I don’t understand this question so am unsure of how to answer.  The specific emphasis placed on certain holidays has developed, changed, and been handed down through many generations, so it’s not a matter of being a good idea, a bad idea, or even a choice; it’s just what it is.  I certainly wouldn’t characterize cherished traditions as being in any way mindless.

Share a positive thought or message or something that’s inspired you this week.
The lovely people in the pictures below inspired me this week, as they do every week:  Mom/Mamaw, Dad/Granddad, The Boss, The Girl, & The Boy.

Happy Hallowe‘en, y’all!

  1. Thanks for Sharing Your (Spooky) World this week. If there were a prize for “creepiest/scariest thing that’s happened while you were alone”, I think you’d walk away with it. Thanks for letting us hear about that!

      1. “`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
        All mimsy were the borogoves,
        And the mome raths outgrabe.”

I got it too, just didn’t have time to say something about that..

  2. Erm, that dream sounds terrifying. And it’s a recurring dream which is even more terrifying. I wonder what it means? Perhaps it means that at time you might see yourself not being your true self in your real life and you’re worried about that?

    1. Hmmm… That’s as good an explanation as any, I guess. I’ve never been one to put much stock in the idea of dreams as omens or tried to puzzle out what they might mean. I so rarely remember them. I just figure they’re the mind’s way of dealing with the stresses of the day.

      1. If it’s a recurring dream, I feel that there is a message to be received. But I don’t know about other dreams, mine tell me the future usually and I’ve seen that recurring dreams happen when you haven’t buried and dealt with an issue completely.
